CORONAVIRUS UPDATE IN NIGERIA

hello Everyone in the class! I want to appreciate your quick response to my blog most especially the ones related to Coronavirus disease that does not know border.

Coronavirus kills over 500 in Europe while Nigeria is not recording any death toll. The death toll in Europe from the coronavirus topped 500 on Monday 9,2020 after Italy recorded a sharp rise in fatalities. Italy's civil protection agency reported 97 new deaths, bringing the country's toll to 463, as the country takes a series of stringent measures to battle the spread of the virus. The number of Europeans killed by the virus now stands at 511, including 21 in France, 16 in Spain, 4 in Britain, 3 in the Netherlands, 2 in Switzerland and 2 in Germany according to an AFP toll. The number of people infected in Italy rose to 9,172 an increase of 1,797 on Sunday's figures. That total includes 724 people who have recovered. Italy's protection agency said 733 people were in intensive care in the country.

The director general of the Nigeria center for disease control, Dr chikwe ihekweazu, on Monday 9,2020 resumed in his office after observing a 14- day self isolation. The isolation became necessary as a standard practice after his return from China, where covid-19 was first reported late in December 2019. Dr ihekweazu resumed on the day Nigeria confirmed its second case of coronavirus. The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, said in a press briefing he addressed in Benin that the second confirmed case had contact with the index case in Ogun state.

The Minister said we were honoured that one of the scientists that the world health organisation had chosen to go to China to study the disease was the DG of NCDC. They were there for 9 days, during which they carried out investigations. But NCDC has already established rules that anybody who has been to China will go to self-isolation.

President of Nigeria Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd) has been appointed a presidential task force for the control of the coronavirus. The 12-member task force is chaired by the secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha. This action is in preparation for the unlikely but probable major outbreak of the disease in the country which will require a multisectoral inter-governmental approach as advised by the World Health Organisation similar to that adopted for the HIV epidemic in the last two decades. WHO praises Nigerian for a great job over coronavirus. However, the Federal Government has made a provision of #920 million for Health agencies to plan and guard against the further spread of covid-19 in Nigeria.
